The first Technology, Art and Archaeology International Conference organized by the Research Center of Material Science and Archaeology (MSA) will take place at Northwestern Polytechical University in Xi’an between 4th and 6th September, 2019.
This year theme, Contacts between East and West in Ancient Gold focuses on material culture exchange and technology transfer relating to goldsmith practice in ancient Eurasia. In recent years, an increasing number of gold artefacts archaeologically recovered in China and beyond has drawn a great attention to the study of origins and developments of early gold-making techniques. It also brings out the formation of new, interdisciplinary scientific fields. The Research Center of Material Science and Archaeology undertakes an interdisciplinary study of the excavated objects by combining scientific analysis with art history and archaeological studies and encourages academics and researchers to share their experiences and to contribute to the developing of diverse subjects. This conference brings together leading archaeologists and scholars across countries to present and discuss the most recent research findings in the fields of Natural Science, Social Science and Humanities.

Rubinson (New York University), Shang Gang (Tsinghua University), Aleksandr Tairov (South Ural State University), Wan Hui (Fudan University), Wang Jianxin (Northwest University), Yang Jianhua (Jilin University), Yu Jianjun (Xinjiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology), etc.
