About SEAA-web

SEAA-web is an information platform dedicated to communicating the activities of the Society for East Asian Archaeology (SEAA), to spreading news of upcoming events and note-worthies in the field to members and the interested public, and to publishing and sharing information on research based on archaeologically recovered material comprising China, Korea, Japan and adjacent regions in all periods, thus aiming at further fostering a network of expertise in East Asian archaeology. The SEAA-web is a non-profit project. It has been created in accordance with the aims and objectives of the Society for East Asian Archaeology (SEAA), and published as a preliminary web in September 2006.

Silk Roads Archaeology Workshop, November 7-8, 2024

A workshop on Silk Roads Archaeology organized by SEAA is going to take place in Oxford, UK, on November 7-8, 2024. The workshop includes a free visit to the Silk Roads Exhibition at the British Museum on November 7, followed by a one-day discussion on recent archaeological discoveries and insights drawn from the rich concept of Silk Roads at Oxford on November 8.

An official Call for Papers and further information will be posted on our social media platforms and website in mid/late July, and the deadline for submission is planned on August 31. Please save the date!

Hybrid conference on Archaeology of Food and Foodways, December 5-6, 2024

A hybrid conference on the topic of Archaeology of Food and Foodways co-organized by the Institute of History and Philology of Academica Sinica and SEAA is going to take place on December 5-6, 2024. The conference will be held in hybrid format with the physical location being at Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan. After the conference, an optional conference tour is offered which runs from December 7-9.

Book Talk with Maria Shinoto on Japanese Kofun and Early Historical Burials, June 6th

Join Maria Shinoto (Associate Professor, institute for Prehistory, Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology, Heidelberg University) for a virtual talk on the Sōshoku Kofun of Japan via Zoom with the Society for East Asian Archaeology on Thursday, June 6, 2024! The talk will take place from 7:00-8:30 AM (Eastern Standard Time)/8:00-9:30 PM (Japan Standard Time)/12:00-1:30 PM (Central European Time).

New Master Course and Summer School on Computer and Geoscience in Archaeology

Digitalisation is transforming our field and profession, thereby also altering the requirements for education and training. In this context, University of Applied Sciences Dresden (HTW Dresden) have developed offerings to provide Archaeology students with essential knowledge of digital tools relevant to their field. The curriculum emphasises the fundamentals of computer science and geoinformatics, such as mathematics, programming, photogrammetry and 3D imaging, surveying, remote sensing, geographic information systems, and their practical application in archaeology.

Welcome to the website of SEAA, the Society for East Asian Archaeology. Established in 1996 and now counting some 500 international members, SEAA is the preeminent organization devoted to the promotion of the field of East Asian archaeology and the facilitation of scholarly exchange among archaeologists of the region.
